Cold Laser Therapy

Cold laser therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy, is one of several treatments that Dr. Danny Choi, our chiropractor, uses to accelerate the healing process of a variety of conditions. Many medical professionals use cold laser therapy, including medical doctors, dentists, acupuncturists, and chiropractors.  At Balance in Motion, in New York, NY, we can help you determine whether cold laser therapy is right for you.

What Is Cold Laser Therapy?

Cold laser therapy is an FDA-approved treatment that uses low-level light or radiation to provide relief from pain. Unlike surgical and aesthetic lasers, low-level lasers do not heat the tissue being treated. During treatment, the chiropractor applies different wavelengths of light to the area using a handheld device. You feel nothing other than the device touching your skin, and the noninvasive treatments take only a few minutes. Chiropractors have been using this therapy for several years, with no reported negative side effects.

What Conditions Does It Treat?

Cold laser is one of several procedures used to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Acute and Chronic Pain
  • Ligament strains
  • Soft-tissue injuries
  • Back pain
  • Tendonitis
  • Bursitis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Arthritis
  • Tendonitis
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Wound Healing
  • Knee Pain
  • Pain Associated with Muscle Spasms
  • Fibromyalgia

What Are the Benefits of Cold Laser Therapy?

When cold laser light enters injured or damaged cells, it stimulates the body's intercellular activity. The primary benefit of this is relief from pain and inflammation. Local blood circulation improves, and the structural integrity of the region begins to improve. Researchers are also studying whether cold laser therapy can be used to treat diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

How Do I Know If It Will Help Me?

When you come into our office, we will do a complete workup. We'll ask you questions about your experiences and what may have led to your pain or loss of function. We ask specific questions about the ability of your body to function properly and without pain. We will also conduct tests to determine a diagnosis and recommend a therapy plan. If cold laser therapy is right for you, we'll include it in your comprehensive treatment plan.
